Barbara Spohn-Lillo, CCA, CF-m
Prosthetic Illusions has been offering custom prostheses along with unwavering personal care since 1981, led by Barbara Spohn-Lillo, a Board Certified Clinical Anaplastologist (CCA), Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CF-m), previous president and charter member of the American Anaplastology Association (now known as the International Anaplastology Association). Barbara started painting artificial eyes at the age of 16 under the tutelage of her father, Walter Spohn – often referred to as “the father of Anaplastology.” He was head of the Anaplastology program at Stanford and director of the Anaplastology/Eye Clinic at the San Francisco VA Hospital.
Barbara received her degree as an Anaplastologist-Ocularist in 1980, through a specialized program created jointly between Stanford University Medical Center and the State of California. Through this program, she received advanced training in creating facial and body prostheses.
In 2002, Barbara became aware of the limited choices available to women with mastectomies, and joined up with some of the best scientists in the industry to make available a more advanced product that has changed the lives of countless women. Prosthetic Illusions is committed to improving the quality of living – and this product has done that!
Chelsea Lillo
As the breast care consultant and business administrator, Chelsea plays a dual role at Prosthetic Illusions. A graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology, Chelsea’s interest in helping others started early. Under the tutelage of her mother, Barbara Spohn-Lillo, and the guidance of educators at the University of Georgia, Chelsea has directed that interest toward creating prostheses. Over the last few years, she’s studied in the field of prosthetics, traveled to international conferences, become a caster and fitter of breast prostheses, and is working towards her certification in Anaplastology/Ocularistry.
Chelsea works closely with our patients, listening to their needs and determining the next best step in their journey. Working in-depth with insurance companies and managing correspondences between doctors and patients are some of the abilities Chelsea has picked up over her time with Prosthetic Illusions, and for which she excels. Her enthusiasm for the care of those in need of prostheses is refreshingly motivating.
With her growing skills and expanding knowledge in the world of Anaplastology, Chelsea is well on her way to becoming a well-rounded professional. With her spirit and growing proficiency in her trade, Chelsea is developing into someone with both the industry savvy and human kindness to make easy the difficult process of transitioning to a prosthesis.
