How can I achieve optimal bra fit with my breast prosthesis inserts?
Proper Bra Fit for Single and Bilateral Mastectomy:
- Breast tissue is contained at the underarm area and neck line.
- Band is comfortably snug around midsection. The band provides 80% of the overall support of a bra!
- Bra is centered over sternum, remaining breast tissue is contained within cup.
- There is at least 2″ of bra material where the cups join together to ensure proper coverage.
- Recommend full-coverage, soft cup bras (demi-cups, molded cup, or “push-up” bras hinder the movement and flow of the prosthesis).
- Underwire is not necessary; however, a bra that has a seam simulating an underwire promotes a great fit.
- Sports bras tend to lack the proper shape to accommodate a prosthesis; however, sports bras that have actual breast separation work well.
- When in doubt: buy multiple styles and sizes and leave the tags on! Simply return the bras that do not accommodate the prosthesis or fit you comfortably.
